Eastbound I-80 to close in Bureau County overnight on April 22

OTTAWA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the eastbound Interstate 80 in Bureau County will be closed on Tuesday, April 22, starting at 8 p.m. The closure will be from the Illinois 78 interchange (exit 33) to the Illinois 40 interchange (exit 45). Westbound traffic will not be affected.

The closure is necessary to repair a guardrail in the work zone. Traffic will utilize a posted detour using Illinois 78, U.S. 6 and Illinois 40. Eastbound I-80 is expected to reopen by 4 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area and be prepared for slow and stopped traffic. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices, and be alert for workers and equipment.
