Emergency closures on I-80 in Joliet and Rockdale
CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that the following lanes and ramps on Interstate 80, in Joliet and Rockdale, are closed for emergency repairs.
- Right lane on eastbound I-80 between Wheeler Avenue and Center Street is closed.
- Anticipated to reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 8.
- Eastbound I-80 ramp to northbound Center Street is closed.
- Anticipated to reopen Friday, April 11 by the evening rush.
- Northbound Center Street between Meadow Avenue and I-80 is closed.
- Anticipated to reopen Friday, April 11 by the evening rush.
- Left lane on southbound Center Street to eastbound I-80 is closed.
- Anticipated to reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday, April 8.
- Westbound I-80 ramp to southbound Center Street/Meadow Avenue is closed.
- Anticipated to reopen by the evening rush today.
Crews are working to complete the repairs and reopen ramps and lanes as soon as safely possible. Due to the projected temperatures, it may take more time for the concrete to set and gain sufficient strength before ramp(s) and lane(s) can be reopened to traffic.
Heavy congestion is anticipated. Motorists should consider alternative routes to avoid the area. Local streets are unable to accommodate heavy or wide trucks so other interstate routes are encouraged.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
