I-474 closures at Airport Road begin May 28

PEORIA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the following closures of Interstate 474 as part of ongoing construction at the Airport Road interchange (exit 5) just west of Peoria, beginning May 28:

On May 28 beginning at 10 p.m., the eastbound lanes will be closed until 5:30 a.m. May 29.
On May 29 beginning at 10 p.m., the eastbound lanes will once again be closed until 5:30 a.m. May 30.
On May 30 beginning at 10 p.m., the westbound lanes will close until 5:30 a.m. May 31. The entrance ramp from Airport Road to westbound I-474 will close at 9 p.m.; however, the exit ramp from westbound I-474 will remain open.
On May 31 beginning at 10 p.m., the westbound lanes will close until 5:30 a.m. June 1. The entrance ramp from Airport Road to westbound I-474 will close at 9 p.m.; however, the exit ramp from westbound I-474 will remain open.

The closures are necessary for the installation of steel beams on the Airport Road overpass on I-474. A detour will be posted.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,000 miles of highway and nearly 10 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Four of Rebuild Illinois included approximately $12.1 billion of improvements statewide on 5,339 miles of highway, 533 bridges and 762 additional safety improvements.
