I-55 work in Sangamon County begins Aug. 12
The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that pavement repairs on Interstate 55 over the Sangamon River just south of Sherman begin Aug. 12.
The project will reduce northbound I-55 to one lane for two weeks, when work will shift to the southbound lanes.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
