I-57 overnight closure set tonight for beam removal on the I-72 overpass

UPDATE: Overnight closure of Interstate 57 will continue for one more night from 9 p.m. on April 24 to 5 a.m. on April 25. Interchange ramps at I-72 will remain open.

CHAMPAIGN – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced an overnight closure of Interstate 57 at mile marker 235 at the Interstate 72 overpass in Champaign set April 23-24.

The project involves removal of beams on the existing Interstate 72 overpass at Interstate 57 and will require a full nighttime closure of I-57 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., April 23-24. Interstate 72 interchange ramps will remain open.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
