I-57 to I-74 ramp closes tonight
Southbound to westbound unavailable ahead of new work stage
CHAMPAIGN – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the ramp from southbound Interstate 57 to westbound I-74 in Champaign will close for approximately three weeks beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, April 8.
The closure is necessary to make a temporary connection to the new pavement on I-74 ahead of the next stage of construction, which will begin shortly after the three-week closure. A detour will be posted utilizing southbound I-57, westbound I-72 and northbound Illinois 47.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
