I-74 lane closures in Peoria begin April 7

PEORIA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that Interstate 74 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Knoxville Avenue (Illinois 40) and Sterling Avenue in Peoria beginning April 7.

The lane closures are necessary for maintenance to the lighting in the center of the interstate and will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day through April 11.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
