CORRECTION - UPDATE 4/30: Paving schedule for the ramps at the Illinois 26 and Interstate 180 interchanges starting Monday, May 4:
Monday, May 4: Work on the I-180 ramps from and to westbound I-80 will begin at 7 p.m. One ramp will be closed as a time for paving and the I-180 ramps to and from eastbound I-80 will remain open. Work will then move to the ramps of the Illinois 26 interchange, where one ramp will be closed at a time for paving, and the remaining ramps will be open. All work will end by 5 a.m. the following morning.
Tuesday, May 5: Work on the I-180 ramps from and to eastbound I-80 will begin at 7 p.m. and end no later than 5 a.m. the following morning. One ramp will be closed at a time for paving, and the remaining ramps will be open.
BUREAU COUNTY – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that weather permitting, work will begin on Interstate 80 in Bureau County on Monday, March 30. The nearly 14-mile work zone is from 1 mile west of the Illinois 26 interchange in Princeton to 1 mile west of the Illinois 89 interchange in Ladd.
Work will mill and resurface I-80 and the ramps of the Illinois 26 and I-180 interchanges and will be split into two 7-mile segments. Work will begin on the western end of the project and is anticipated to be completed by the Memorial Day weekend. Work will begin on the eastern 7 miles of I-80 after the holiday. There will be one lane open in each direction at all times, except for holiday weekends where all lanes will be open.
Milling and resurfacing of the ramps at the Illinois 26 and I-180 interchanges will be done at night and will include temporary closures. The $17.9 million project is anticipated to be completed in October.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone areas, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
