I-80 interchange at Richards Street reopens Oct. 1

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to rebuild Interstate 80 from Ridge Road in Minooka to U.S. 30 in Joliet and New Lenox, the reconstructed interchange at I-80 and Richards Street is nearing completion and is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m., weather permitting, Wednesday, Oct. 1.

The project rebuilt Richards Street between Colburn and Fifth avenues, installed new noise barrier walls and rehabilitated the bridge over Hickory Creek.

The public should continue to expect lane closures on Richards Street and overnight ramp and lane closures on I-80 over the next few weeks as crews complete miscellaneous work, landscaping completed next spring.

As the I-80 reconstruction continues, the public should continue to expect lane shifts, overnight lane closures and significant delays and to allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
