Illinois 1 to close at railroad crossing near Robinson beginning Aug. 4
EFFINGHAM – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the closure of the railroad crossing on Illinois 1 near Robinson for an improvement project at the crossing. Work is tentatively scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 4.
The closure is necessary to allow Indiana Railroad to remove and replace the existing crossing with a rail seal crossing. This improvement will address water issues that caused failure and created safety issues. Signs and barricades will be used to indicate the closure of the road. A detour will be posted utilizingCounty Highway 14 (700N) and Illinois 33 in Palestine. Work is tentatively scheduled to be completed on Thursday, Aug. 7.
Motorists will need to seek an alternate route. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
