Illinois 2 closed at Canadian National Railway in Rockford Sept. 11

ROCKFORD – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that Illinois 2 (South Main Street) will be closed at the Canadian National Railway crossing in Rockford on Thursday, Sept. 11. The crossing is just south of the Kent Creek bridge.

The railroad will remove and replace a defective rail in the crossing. A posted detour will direct traffic to use Cedar Street, South Winnebago Street and Morgan Street. The road is anticipated to reopen on Friday, Sept. 12.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone areas, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
