Illinois 49 to close at railroad crossing in Willow Hill beginning June 11

EFFINGHAM – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the closure of the railroad crossing on Illinois 49 (Cumberland Street) in Willow Hill due to an improvement project at the crossing. Work is tentatively scheduled to begin Wednesday, June 11.

The closure is necessary to allow Indiana Railroad to resurface the crossing. Signs and barricades will be used to indicate the closure of the road. Work is tentatively scheduled to be completed on Friday, June 13.

Motorists will need to seek an alternate route. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
