Improvements at the Third Street railroad crossing in St. Peter begins Nov. 10

EFFINGHAM – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that Third Street (Illinois 185) in St. Peter will close between West Railroad Street and East Railroad Street for improving the approaches at the railroad crossing. Work will begin Monday, Nov. 10, and is scheduled to be completed on Friday, Nov. 14.

The closure is necessary to allow Union Pacific to make the improvements. A detour utilizing U.S. 40, Altamont Blacktop and Illinois 37 will be in place. ​

It will be necessary for motorists to find an alternate route. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
