Interstate 74 over Illinois 17 bridge replacement begins Oct. 27
WOODHULL – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that construction on Interstate 74 over Illinois 17 in Henry County begins Oct. 27.
This work is part of a multi-year bridge reconstruction project including replacement of both eastbound and westbound bridges, shoulders and approach pavements, as well as safety improvements.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction to construct crossovers that will be used to direct traffic in the 2026-27 construction seasons. The westbound structure will be replaced in 2026, and the eastbound structure will be replaced in 2027. All lanes will be opened to traffic at the end of each construction season. The project is expected to be completed by November 2027.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide on 7,897 miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
