Lane closures on Illinois 13 over Crab Orchard Lake begin Aug. 25

WILLIAMSON COUNTY – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that changes to traffic patterns on Illinois 13 between Spillway Road and Greenbriar Road near Carterville will begin Monday, Aug. 25.

Starting Aug. 25, Illinois 13 will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with head-to-head traffic separated by concrete barriers. The changes are necessary to accommodate construction of new westbound lanes and replacement bridges over the Crab Orchard Lake causeway.

Additionally, Cambria Road and Shawnee Trail will be closed at their intersections with Illinois 13 for the duration of this phase.

Beginning Sept. 2, boat access to the Cambria Neck north of Illinois 13 from Crab Orchard Lake will be closed, along with pedestrian access to the causeway, including areas commonly used for fishing. These closures are required for safety and construction staging.

This phase of the project is expected to continue through September 2026.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during this closure. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
