Lane closures on US 51 in Marion County to begin May 11

CENTRAL CITY – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that daily lane closures will be in place in both directions of U.S. 51 for approximately 4 miles between Central City and Sandoval in Marion County beginning Monday, May 11, weather permitting.

The closures are necessary for a resurfacing project. Flaggers will maintain two-way traffic during daytime hours.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of August.

Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during this closure. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
