Maple Street, north of the Fayette Avenue intersection, to close beginning Oct. 10
EFFINGHAM – The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that the reconstruction of the westbound lanes of Fayette Avenue and a portion of Maple Street, north of the intersection, will begin Thursday, Oct. 10. This closure is part of the Fayette Avenue reconstruction project in Effingham.
This work will require the closure of Maple Street from the Fayette Avenue intersection to the alley 150 feet north. It will also restrict access to Linden Street north of the Fayette Avenue intersection for approximately one week. Walnut Street and Mulberry Street will be open to access the areas north of Fayette Avenue. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on Fayette Avenue during this closure. Maple Street should reopen in mid-November.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
