Overnight closure of I-64 set for Aug. 12
MARION – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced an overnight closure of Interstate 64 between mileposts 62 and 73 in Jefferson County, the stretch between Mount Vernon and Centralia, beginning, weather permitting, Tuesday, Aug. 12.
The closure is necessary to perform emergency patching and guardrail repairs. To complete the work, eastbound I-64 will be closed from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., and westbound I-64 will be closed from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Illinois 15. Both directions of I-64 will reopen as soon as the work is complete.
Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during this closure. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone.
