Overnight closures on I-80 and Houbolt Road over two Consecutive nights

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to rebuild Interstate 80 from Ridge Road, in Minooka, to U.S. 30, in Joliet and New Lenox, overnight lane closures, accompanied by 15-minute full traffic stops, are scheduled to take place on Houbolt Road at I-80 over two consecutive nights beginning, weather permitting, Monday June 2. The closures are necessary to safely install steel beams on the I-80 bridge over Houbolt Road.

To complete the work, the public should expect overnight lane closures in both directions of I-80 near Houbolt Road from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday, June 2 and Tuesday, June 3. At the same time Houbolt Road will be reduced to one lane in both directions at I-80. Additionally, the I-80 ramps to Houbolt Road will be closed. At 11 p.m., full stops for no longer than 15 minutes at a time will take place on Houbolt Road. The work is anticipated to be completed by 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 4.

As the I-80 reconstruction continues, the public should continue to expect lane shifts, overnight lane closures and significant delays and to allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
