Overnight I-474 closures begin Oct. 21
PEORIA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that as part of ongoing construction at the Airport Road interchange (exit 5), Interstate 474 will close overnight for three consecutive nights beginning Oct. 21.
The closures will occur as follows, with detours posted:
- Oct. 21: Eastbound I-474 will close at 10 p.m. and reopen at 5 a.m. the next day.
- Oct. 22: Eastbound I-474 will close at 10 p.m. and reopen at 5:30 a.m. the next day.
- Oct. 23: Westbound I-474 will close at 10 p.m. and reopen at 5:30 a.m. the next day. The I-474 on-ramp from Airport Road close at 9 p.m.; the off-ramp will remain open.
The closures are necessary for installation of steel beams on the new Airport Road bridge over I-474.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
