UPDATE: Overnight closures rescheduled for Saturday, March 22

Overnight lane closures on I-80 at Houbolt Road

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to rebuild Interstate 80 from Ridge Road, in Minooka, to U.S. 30, in Joliet and New Lenox, overnight lane closures, accompanied by 15-minute full expressway traffic stops, are scheduled to take place on I-80 near Houbolt Road beginning, weather permitting, Saturday, March 22 (previously scheduled for March 15). The closures are necessary to remove large signs over the interstate.

Starting at 8 p.m. Saturday, both directions of I-80 will be reduced to one lane between Interstate 55 and Larkin Avenue (Illinois 7). At 1 a.m., full stops for no longer than 15 minutes at a time will take place. The eastbound and westbound I-80 ramps to Houbolt Road will also be closed, U.S. 6 and Larkin Avenue are alternatives. All lanes and ramps will reopen by noon Sunday, March 23.

The public should continue to expect lane shifts, overnight lane closures and significant delays and to allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
