Patching and resurfacing project on Illinois 33 in Jasper County begins Aug. 4
EFFINGHAM – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a patching and resurfacing project on Illinois 33 from the Effingham County line to West End Avenue in Newton begins Monday, August 4.
Lane closures are expected. Flaggers will be used to direct traffic through the work zones. There will be up to three days where access to Jasper County Junior High School and Newton Community High School from Illinois 33 may be restricted. Benefits from this 11-mile project includes safety improvements and a smoother driving surface. This project is expected to be completed by the end of August.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes may be necessary. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
