Public hearing on proposed rail improvements in Will County, part of high-speed rail project

Part of the Chicago-to-St. Louis high-speed rail project

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation is reminding the public that the environmental assessment for the proposed Elwood-to-Braidwood track improvements are complete and available to review, with a public hearing on the findings scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 7. The proposed improvements are part of the Chicago-to-St. Louis high-speed rail line, which aims to enhance the speed, efficiency and safety of travel between these two cities as well as communities and institutions along the route.

The environmental assessment covers the proposed construction of a second track between Elwood and Braidwood and other related improvements that will allow a speed increase to 110 mph through that section of the corridor. The hearing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the project and discuss with representatives from IDOT and the project team.

Date: Aug. 7

Time: 4 to 7 p.m.

Fossil Ridge Public Library District

386 W. Kennedy Road, Braidwood

The hearing will be held in an open-house format. The public is invited to attend at any time during the hearing. Comments can be given at the meeting in writing or directly to a court reporter. Comments can also be submitted here. All comments received by Aug. 15 will be considered part of the public record. For more project information, please visit the project web page.
