Public invited to provide input on the U.S. 67 (Centennial Bridge) Corridor project on April 17 in Rock Island

DIXON – The Illinois Department of Transportation, in partnership with the Iowa Department of Transportation, will host a public meeting for the U.S. 67 (Centennial Bridge) Corridor project on Thursday, April 17. The event will be from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Rock Island-Quad Cities, 226 17th St., Rock Island.

This meeting will be held in an open house format and there will not be a formal presentation. The public is invited to attend at any time during the hours listed and will be able to view a video presentation and informational displays, speak with project representatives, ask questions, and share their feedback.

“Finding a long-term solution for the Centennial Bridge is essential for maintaining safe and efficient transportation,” said IDOT Studies and Plans Engineer Mike Kuehn. “We’re just getting started in this process, and we need to hear from the community. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of this corridor and we encourage everyone to stop by and share their thoughts.”

The Centennial Bridge, which first opened in 1940 as the area’s first four-lane highway bridge over the Mississippi River, serves as a vital connection between the communities of Rock Island and Davenport, Iowa. However, the 85-year-old structure requires frequent maintenance and costly repairs.

The U.S. 67 (Centennial Bridge) Corridor Project launched in January and is a collaborative study led by IDOT, in partnership with the Iowa DOT and the Federal Highway Administration. The first phase of this project is a study that will assess the bridge’s condition, explore solutions and develop a long-term plan that meets community needs while considering safety, accessibility and environmental factors. The study, funded in part by the Rebuild Illinois capital program, is anticipated to conclude in summer 2027, advancing the project to the design phase pending federal review and approval.

In addition to public meetings, the project team is forming a Community Advisory Group to seek a wide range of perspectives from community leaders, organizations, businesses and others into the planning process. Those interested in participating can learn more on the project website, www.CentennialBridge.com.

Meeting materials will be posted to the project website following the meeting. Comments and questions are encouraged and can be submitted anytime through the website. Comments received by May 1 will become part of the official meeting record.
