Stage change, overnight lane closures on I-80 begin June 23
JOLIET – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to rebuild Interstate 80 in Minooka, Joliet and New Lenox, a stage change is scheduled to take place with overnight lane closures between U.S. 30 and Cherry Hill Road beginning, weather permitting, Monday, June 23.
To facilitate the stage change, lane closures will take place on eastbound I-80 between Briggs Street and U.S. 30 starting at 9 p.m. Monday. At least one eastbound lane will remain open to traffic. Additionally, the eastbound I-80 ramps to and from Briggs Street also will be closed. The ramps and lanes that were closed overnight will reopen by 5 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, when the new traffic pattern will be in place.
Starting at 9 p.m. Tuesday, lane closures will take place on westbound I-80 between US-30 and Briggs Street. At least one eastbound lane will remain open to traffic. Additionally, the westbound I-80 ramps from U.S. 30 also will be closed. The ramps and lanes that were closed overnight will reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, when the new traffic pattern will be in place.
In the new configuration, the eastbound and westbound lanes will be moved onto the newly constructed pavement between Cherry Hill Road and U.S. 30.
As the I-80 reconstruction continues, the public should continue to expect lane shifts, overnight lane closures and significant delays and to allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
