Touhy Avenue full closure in Des Plaines

Corrected: The work/closure starts today, Friday, Nov. 14.

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs by Canadian National to a railroad crossing on Touhy Avenue east of Mannheim Road (U.S. 12/45) in Des Plaines will require a full closure starting, weather permitting, 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14.

A detour will direct motorist to Mannheim Road/Lee Street, Oakton Street and River Road. The work is being overseen by the railroad and is expected to be completed by 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20.

The public should expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to detour signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
