UPDATE: Stage change at Cedar Street project begins Aug. 26
UPDATE 10/8: On Thursday, Oct. 10, the westbound lane of the Cedar Street extension will be closed between Main and Edmund Streets in East Peoria. The ramps from Main Street to the westbound Cedar Street extension also will be closed. This configuration is necessary for a bridge deck pour and will last through the end of the day. Eastbound traffic will not be affected.
EAST PEORIA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that as part of the ongoing overhaul of the Cedar Street Bridge (Illinois 8/116) across the Illinois River, a new traffic configuration begins Aug. 26.
This change will move bridge traffic currently in a two-way configuration in the westbound lanes to the same configuration in the eastbound lanes. Most of the work on this part of the Cedar Street Bridge project is expected to be complete in late fall, with minor work going into 2025.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
