US 51 closure in Du Quoin begins July 8

DU QUOIN – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that U.S. 51 will be closed to traffic between Park Street and North Street in Perry County beginning, weather permitting, Tuesday, July 8.

The closure is necessary to complete pavement replacement work and is expected to last approximately 30 days.

A marked detour will be in place to guide motorists around the closure. Local traffic should use Maple Street. Truck traffic will be detoured to the west using Illinois 152, Illinois 13/127 and Illinois 154.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changing conditions and all detour signs prior to the work zone, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
