U.S. 67, Illinois 135 work begins July 7

VIOLA – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that construction on U.S. 67 from 40th Avenue, about 5 miles south of Viola, to Illinois 135 and on Illinois 135 from Main Street in Alexis to U.S. 67 in Warren and Mercer counties begins July 7.

The project involves repairs and a deck overlay on the U.S. 67 bridge over Toms Creek, north of Alexis, with traffic controlled by temporary signals. Additional work includes pavement patching and resurfacing as well as guardrail improvements and will require daytime lane closures on U.S. 67 and Illinois 135 with traffic controlled by flaggers. All work is expected to be complete by December.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
