Weekend closures on northbound Illinois 394 at Glenwood Lansing Road ​

CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that as part of ongoing efforts to repair the bridge carrying Glenwood Lansing Road over Illinois 394 in Glenwood weekend closures are scheduled to take place on northbound Illinois 394 at Glenwood Lansing Road over four weekends beginning, weather permitting, tonight, Aug. 8.

The closures are necessary to safely remove and install steel beams on the Glenwood Lansing bridge over Illinois 394.

The following closures with detours will take place the weekends of Aug. 8, Aug. 15, Aug. 22 and Sept. 5.

Fridays, Saturdays

  • Starting at 9 p.m. Friday, northbound Illinois 394 will be reduced to one lane just before Glenwood Lansing Road. Between 1 and 5 a.m. Saturday northbound Illinois 394 will be fully closed at Glenwood Lansing Road. During that time, a detour will direct northbound Illinois 394 traffic to exit at Glenwood-Dyer Road to Torrence Avenue (Illinois 83) to Interstate 80/94.

Saturdays, Sunday

  • Starting at 8 p.m. Saturday, northbound Illinois 394 will be reduced to one lane just before Glenwood Lansing Road. Between 1 and 7 a.m. Sunday northbound Illinois 394 will be fully closed at Glenwood Lansing Road. During that time, a detour will direct northbound Illinois 394 traffic to exit at Glenwood-Dyer Road to Torrence Avenue to I-80/94.

Mondays (if needed)

  • Starting at 9 p.m. Sunday, northbound Illinois 394 will be reduced to one lane just before Glenwood Lansing Road. Between 1 and 5 a.m. Monday northbound Illinois 394 will be fully closed at Glenwood Lansing Road. During that time, a detour will direct northbound Illinois 394 traffic to exit at Glenwood-Dyer Road to Torrence Avenue to I-80/94.

All scheduled work is subject to change due to multiple factors, including inclement weather. In that event, schedules will be updated and shared with the public.

The overall project, which consists of repairs to the structural steel, is anticipated to be completed later this month.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide on 7,897 miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
