Work at I-72/57 interchange begins Sept. 9
Preparing for bridge reconstruction in 2025
CHAMPAIGN – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that construction at the Interstate 72/57 interchange in Champaign begins Sept. 9.
This work involves building crossover pavement to be used during next year’s reconstruction of the I-72 bridges over I-57 and will require closures of the left lane in both directions of I-72. Bridge work will begin in 2025 with an expected completion in fall 2026.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
