Work on southbound I-39 in Cherry Valley begins Sept. 30
$3.9 million project to fix pavement near Perryville Road
CHERRY VALLEY – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, construction on southbound Interstate 39 in Cherry Valley will begin Tuesday, Sept. 30. The work zone will be from the U.S. 20/Harrison Avenue interchange to just south of the Perryville Road bridge.
The $3.9 million project will remove and reconstruct the pavement in this area. Night work in the area will be done on two weekends—from Friday, Oct. 3, through Sunday, Oct. 5, and from Friday Oct. 10, through Sunday, Oct. 12. Traffic will be reduced to one southbound lane during these times. The project is anticipated to be completed by Monday, Oct. 20.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone areas, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide on 7,897 miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
