Work underway on U.S. 20 in Jo Daviess County
$31.8 million project will realign highway from Stockton to Logemann Road
STOCKTON – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that a multiyear project is underway on U.S. 20 in Jo Daviess County. The work zone is located from Rush Street in Stockton to Logemann Road west of the village.
The $31.6 million project includes the construction of a new alignment of U.S. 20 north of the current roadway that will include a truck climbing lane and a new bridge over Rush Creek. Portions of the existing road will be reconstructed to include left turn lanes and paved shoulders.
Work this year will involve earthwork and rock blasting to create the new alignment. Construction will not have direct impact on traffic on U.S. 20, but trucks and construction crews will be periodically entering and leaving the highway.
Construction will continue in 2026 and 2027 on the new alignment, including the new Rush Creek bridge. Work also will be done on U.S. 20, including culvert replacement and other drainage improvements, construction of left turn lanes and shoulders, and patching and resurfacing. This work will be done in sections, with one lane of traffic open and controlled by temporary signals. Some side roads will be closed for reconstruction during this phase. The entire project is anticipated to be completed in November 2027.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone areas, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide on 7,897 miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
