Work zone shift at I-74/Morton set June 17

MORTON – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that as part of ongoing work on the westbound Interstate 74 ramps at Morton Avenue in Morton, the work zone will include the ramp from Morton Avenue to westbound I-74 beginning June 17.

This stage involves patching on the ramp, and traffic from the ramp will be required to merge into westbound I-74 because the third lane at the bottom of the ramp will not be available to traffic. This part of the project could last until the end of the week.

Patching of eastbound I-74 near Muller Road also will begin on June 17 and will close the right lane possibly until the end of the week.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
