Bridge repair project on Cleone Road over I-70 near Martinsville

EFFINGHAM – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a $1.8 million bridge repair project will begin on Cleone Road over I-70 May 11.

The project will be completed under stage construction, with one lane open at all times across the structure. Advance signs and signals will be in place in advance of the project to direct traffic over the bridge and through the interchange on and off ramps. As traffic approaches the signals, traffic should stay in their lane all the way up to the signal stop bar then proceed as the signals indicate. The project should be completed by the end of September. This project will improve safety and the smoothness of the pavement over I-70 for the traveling public.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and obey the posted speed limits.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,200 miles of highway and nearly 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide on 7,897 miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
